Documentary film Truth Tellers in Lewiston
The inspiring documentary film Truth Tellers will be shown at The Public Theatre in Lewiston on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2014, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12, available on Eventbrite and at the door. The screening is a prelude to the major exhibit of the entire AWTT portrait gallery at the Bates Mill Complex later in the month (Nov. 15 – Dec. 15).
Truth Tellers asks “what defines a great American?” Through Maine artist/activist Robert Shetterly’s 270+ portraits of great Americans – his “models of courageous citizenship”- we learn about the fearlessness of those defending democracy, fighting for racial justice, indigenous rights, and the youth battling a changing climate. These “Americans Who Tell the Truth” teach us about the moral courage it takes to protect our country’s founding ideals. The film is more and more relevant every day as we witness democracy on the chopping block, schools and libraries eliminating books from the shelves.
