“Voting in 2020 is over, but we have a few more months to celebrate the 100th anniversary of woman suffrage. This week we can turn to a leader of that cause, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and wish her a happy birthday. On November 12 Stanton would have been 105 years old. When she turned 65 in 1880 she marked the day by announcing her first vote.
We have heard about Susan B. Anthony voting in Rochester in 1872, and being arrested for this crime, but we know less about Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s first illegal act at the polling place where she lived in New Jersey eight years later.”
