Monarch Students to visit Shetterly’s Studio
Students and faculty from the Monarch Learning Academy in Orlando, Florida will visit with AWTT artist Robert Shetterly in his home town Brooksville, Maine on April 26, 2025. At 2 p.m., they will hold a public discussion at the nearby Reversing Falls Sanctuary about their school-based projects which are aimed at reducing the use of plastics and keeping plastics out of the waste stream. Then they will tour Shetterly’s art studio and enjoy a meal at his home. While they are in the area, they also plan to visit Acadia National Park and do a beach clean up.
The students’ enthusiastic relationship with AWTT began when their school hosted an exhibit of Shetterly’s portraits in Orlando at the opening of school last fall. The students became particularly inspired by Dianna Cohen, an artist and anti-plastics environmentalist from Southern California. They Zoomed with her, discussed what they could do, then went to work. The students’ multi-faceted campaign is impressive! Shetterly and AWTT staff are looking forward to hearing about their most recent efforts. The community is invited.
