Artist Robert Shetterly’s post-election interview in Atlantic City

Fannie Lou Hamer Awtt Portrait

In November 2024 – just days after the national election – AWTT artist Robert Shetterly was interviewed by journalist Steve Adubato in Atlantic City at the New Jersey Education Association Convention. In this riveting discussion, Shetterly shares his perspectives on the present moment through the lens of some of his most inspiring portrait subjects, including William Sloane Coffin, Howard Zinn, Fannie Lou Hamer, and John Lewis.

Shetterly emphasizes his deep-seated need to surround himself with these truth tellers, who feed him with their courageous optimism. Adubato repeatedly mentions – and recommends to his audience, especially at this moment – the documentary film Truth Tellers, which tells more of Shetterly’s story and the stories of his portrait subjects. (The film is available through Bullfrog Films.)
