Americans Who Tell the Truth

AWTT has been so focused on the release of Truth Tellers — the new documentary film of artist Robert Shetterly’s story — and the publication of Shetterly’s new book, Portraits of Racial Justice, that we almost overlooked some other notable recent publications.

Tarana Burke‘s eagerly-anticipated life story, Unbound, was released by Flatiron Books in September. Kirkus Review praises Burke’s book as “an unforgettable page-turner of a life story rendered with endless grace and grit.”

AWTT recently unveiled the portrait of farmer Leah Penniman, whose cover photo and story are featured in Natalie Baszile’s new anthology: We Are Each Other’s Harvest: Celebrating African American Farmers, Land, and Legacy

Meanwhile, sports writer Dave Zirin has a new book out: The Kaepernick Effect. Ibram X. Kendi offers this praise: “The Kaepernick Effect reveals that Colin Kaepernick’s story is bigger than one athlete. With profiles of courage that leap off the page, Zirin uncovers a whole national movement of citizen-athletes fighting for racial justice.”

Be inspired by reading these talented authors’ latest offerings!
