Truth Tellers Month at Meetinghouse Arts
From Friday, October 20th through October 28th, Meetinghouse Arts in Freeport, Maine will host an exhibition of 18 pieces from the Americans Who Tell the Truth portrait series by artist, activist, and writer Robert Shetterly.
Join us on October 20th for a public reception, film screening and talk with the artist:
4:00 PM – Public Reception in the Gallery
6:00 PM – Truth Tellers Film Screening
7:00 PM – Robert Shetterly Talk: Meetinghouse Arts Stage
On October 23, at 3:30 p.m., educators are invited to a workshop focused on the many ways teachers can use the portraits to supplement their curriculum and inspire students.
Throughout the month of October, Meetinghouse Arts will be presenting works that engage the issues, individuals and narratives portrayed in the AWTT exhibition.
Robert Shetterly has painted over 265 portraits of Americans, who are, in his words, “icons of the historical struggle for justice and equality. They stood up against powerful people and systems which had denied them their rights and dignity.”
The mission of Meetinghouse Arts is to cultivate Greater Freeport as a vibrant center for arts and culture by fostering creative collaborations, expanding access to arts and cultural resources, and amplifying the arts and culture as tools to economically strengthen, educate, and connect community.
This program is made possible with the support of: Maine Wicked Goods, Kennebec Savings Bank, and Michael Boucher Landscape Architecture.
