What is a story exchange?

The goal of the story exchange is for you to experience the power of empathy and connection. The story exchange allows you to practice skills including deep listening, storytelling, and perspective-taking to cultivate more empathy and stronger interpersonal connections.  The process of the story exchange is as follows:

• Inspired by one of the AWTT portraits, participants will share their stories with an assigned partner.

• The partners will take turns practicing the skills of storytelling and deep listening.

• Guided by a Narrative 4 facilitator, participants will practice perspective-taking, sharing their partner’s story in the first person.

• The Narrative 4 facilitator will guide the small group through a period of reflection on the story exchange process and its connection to empathy and understanding.
