Can We Divest from Weapons Dealers?

Kathy Kelly, co-coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence, tirelessly continues her call for divestment. In this opinion piece, published by the Bainbridge Island Review, Kelly reflects on gun violence on the streets of Chicago and the killing of innocent people around the world with weapons built by U.S. companies. 

“Consider this: The 2018 U.S. Census Report tallies U.S. exports of bullets to other countries. Topping the list is $123 million-worth of bullets to Afghanistan — an eight-fold rise over the number of bullets sold in 2017 and far more than the number of bullets sold to any other country.”
