Robert Shetterly with Orono studentsAWTT portraits and narratives were displayed in a variety of spaces in the Orono community including retail businesses, banks, offices, and community spaces. A scavenger hunt initiated by the Orono Public Library encouraged community members to find the portrait in each location and return the completed form to the library to be entered into a contest to win prizes donated by area merchants.

In addition to the scavenger hunt and the showing of the documentary film Truth Tellers, the library sponsored a panel discussion open to the community with artist Robert Shetterly and two portrait subjects.

Robert and Connie in Orono ClassroomLocal schools also engaged in this project by hosting Shetterly in the schools for a day. Shetterly spoke with all grade levels and enhanced the education of students by encouraging teachers to work the concepts of environmental, racial, and social justice into their curricula.

Bring Americans Who Tell the Truth (AWTT) original portraits to your community.
