SUMMARY:History Rhymes: Echoes of the Past in Today’s Society
DESCRIPTION:AWTT portrait artist Robert Shetterly ( https://americanswhotellthetruth.org/about/about-the-artist/ ) joins with his son, Aran, and daughter-in-law, Margot, to offer a program at the The Good Life Center in Harborside, Maine, on July 5, 2026, 4-5 p.m. The three will “explore the failures and successes in history in order to plan better for a more just future.”\nRob Shetterly is the artist behind Americans Who Tell the Truth, a portrait series honoring those who stand for justice and the common good.\nAran Shetterly, a writer and editor, has published two books, most recently Morningside: The 1979 Greensboro Massacre and the Struggle for an American City’s Soul. He also inspired his father to paint a portrait of Joyce and Nelson Johnson ( https://americanswhotellthetruth.org/portraits/joyce-and-nelson-johnson/ ) whose lives were deeply affected by the Greensboro Massacre.\nMargot Lee Shetterly is best known for her best-selling book Hidden Figures, which also became a popular Hollywood movie.\nThe mission of The Good Life Center is to perpetuate the legacy of back-to-the-landers Helen and Scott Nearing ( https://americanswhotellthetruth.org/portraits/scott-nearing/ ). The Shetterlys’ presentation will kick off the Center’s summer speaker series for the 2026 season.\nSuggested donation to The Good Life Center: $10\n
