SUMMARY:Kent, Connecticut Includes AWTT Exhibit in 250th Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The Town of Kent, CT joins with many other towns and cities around the country during the summer of 2026 to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary. Included in Kent’s celebration will be several AWTT-related events.\nAWTT portrait of Samantha Smith, peacemaker.\nFrom June 17 to July 15, freestanding replicas of 10 AWTT portraits will beautify the Golden Falcon Field, with accompanying bios of each subject. This outdoor exhibit is free to all.\nOn July 11, The Kent Memorial Library will offer a free screening of Truth Tellers, an award-winning documentary about artist Robert Shetterly’s portrait series Americans Who Tell the Truth, “an astonishing collection of nearly 300 portraits of defenders of the American ideals of ‘liberty and justice for all.'”\nGood Gallery (on Main St in Kent) and Housatonic Fine Art and Framing (in Cornwall Bridge) will each have giclée copies of some of Shetterly’s portraits on display and for sale before and after the screening.\nIn anticipation of the events, coordinator Megan Haney comments:\n“If your curiosity is piqued, you can view all of Shetterly’s portraits online ( https://americanswhotellthetruth.org/portrait-gallery/ ), clicking on each thumbnail to access biographies, quotes, and pertinent video clips. If you’re interested in a particular subset of activism, you can filter the portraits by any one of 23 filters–civil rights, environmental issues, food and health, LGBTQIA+ and more. I have already spent hours on the site, being blown away by what some of the subjects have faced in their lives—how much they had to endure en route to blazing a better way. Their courage and creativity cannot be overstated.\nAWTT portrait of political analyst and whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg\n“An impressive non-profit has sprung up around Shetterly’s work, also titled Americans Who Tell the Truth (AWTT). Among the many services the non-profit provides is to offer free lesson plans and other educational programs, encouraging students (at all levels of schooling) to act for the common good, while deepening their knowledge and understanding of past and current events.”\nAlong with local resident Lynn Gray, Haney and others may be planning some additional events around the AWTT visit, so check back for updates.\nAll events are free of charge, with those inspired to make online donations to AWTT ( https://americanswhotellthetruth.org/donate/ ).\n
