DESCRIPTION:On May 20, 2025, two hundred students who participated in this year’s Samantha Smith Challenge ( https://americanswhotellthetruth.org/programs/education/samantha-smith-challenge/ ) will gather in Orono, Maine to celebrate their work. Participanting schools include:\nMonarch Learning Academy (FL)\nHazelwood Elementary School (WA)\nTroy Howard Middle School (ME)\nWaterville Junior High School (ME)\nBruce Whittier Middle School (ME)\nOrono High School (ME)\nAsa Adams Elementary School (ME)\nLeonard Middle School (ME)\n\nTeacher, poet, and veteran peace activist Doug Rawlings, will be the guest speaker.\n\nThe students will engage in a number of activities including the sharing of each other’s SSC projects. The student projects address a wide range of issues, including environmental concerns, gender awareness, racism, plastic waste, inclusion and other societal problems that they wanted to learn more about and to act upon.\n\n\n
