SUMMARY:Berea College hosts AWTT portrait exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Berea College, in Berea, Kentucky, will be exhibiting a collection of Americans Who Tell the Truth portraits, from March 15 – March 31, 2024.\nAWTT artist Robert Shetterly will speak at the school on March 28 at 3 p.m. He will share stories of his own journey with AWTT and the stories of some of his portrait subjects. The program also includes the unveiling of a new portrait: Craig Williams.\nWilliams is a Kentuckian who, for four decades, fought for the adoption of technologies capable of “closed-loop chemical destruction,” where toxic chemical weapons are neutralized without being released into the environment. On July 7, 2023 the last remaining chemical weapons stored at the Bluegrass Army Depot in Richmond, Kentucky, were safely destroyed. Being the final storage site in the United States, this also marked America’s compliance with the international chemical weapons treaty.\nBerea College was the first integrated, co-educational college in the South, and it has not charged students tuition since 1892.  Founded in 1855 by an ardent abolitionist, the school encourages values such as inclusion, equity and impartial love. “It shows in everything [they] do.”\nShetterly is honored that Berea has offered to host this special portrait unveiling, along with the campus show of his earlier work.\n \n
