what abunch of leftists! and i used to be a liberal. How about soem dimension here - 3 names - Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and Jefferson Davis - 3 men in 3 different ways who took a stand against tyranny. there is truth and then there is your version of manufactured truth.

Dear Erwin, This is a curious letter. You are saying that Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Margaret Chase Smith, Dwight Eisenhower, and Howard Zinn are leftists and that they should be balanced by three men who fought for the right to continue slavery? I am at a loss for words.... Sincerely, Robert |

Some notable omissions are journalist & social critic Barbara Ehrenreich, philosopher Murray Bookchin (who created Social Ecology), social thinker and economist David Korten, physican, pharma critic and public health advocate, Sydney Wolfe, environment activists and chemical industry critics, Cindy Duehring and Sandra Steingraber, media critic Edward Herman, investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, social psychologist Bruce Levine, and Michael Albert (founder of Participatory Economics or Paracon). So many more. Too bad you can't feature Canadians. We have some truth-tellers ourselves, including environmentalist and broadcaster David Suzuki, social activists Maude Barlow and Tony Clarke, journalist Judy Rebick, among others. Perhaps you could inspire a Canadian artist to undertake a similar project. Bruce Wilson

Dear Bruce, Thanks for writing from Canada. Several of the people you mentioned are new to me & several are on my "to do" list. I just finished David Korten's portrait. I'll investigate the others. You've educated me! Best, Robert |

One must be mentally ill to describe this exhibit as "non-partisan". Sprinkling Abraham Lincoln and Dwight Eisenhower into a gallery of the most loathsome leftists of the past 100 years does not a non partisan exhibit make. You are obviously free to believe and to paint whatever you like, but at least have the self awareness to realize that the group as a whole is a tribute to leftist ideas.

Dear Greg, Thanks for writing. Frankly, I am weary of this kind of name calling. "Loathsome leftists?" Martin Luther King, Jr.? Rachel Carson? For me it is NEVER a question of left and right. It's a question of entitlement or justice. Racism or equality. Exploitation or sustainability. Truth or propaganda. I'm only interested in one ideology, that of our Constitution & Declaration of Independence. yours, Robert |

Thank you, Robert Shetterly, for honoring the humble Truth Tellers, like Granny D. May she rest in purest peace.

Dear Dawne, Granny D certainly earned her right to rest in purest peace. But I suspect she will go on agitating till we get the money out of politics. She said, "If you lose control of your government, you lose your ability to dispense justice." All the best, Robert |

Have you considered painting David Mas Masumoto? Our favorite peach grower and author of Wisdom of the Last Farmer and Epitaph for a Peach. He is someone to greatly admire.

A self-proclaimed communist. Communist do not believe in our Constitution, do not believe in people's ability to think for themselves. Communists have a pretty bad reputation when it comes to telling the truth. It's easy to get away with lying to people who don't care to inform themselves. Useful idiots the communists call you.

Dear Laura, I suggest that it might be a good idea for you to read our Constitution. I am not a Communist, but the Constitution protects my right to be one if I wanted to be. People do not have to believe in the Constitution for the Constitution to beleive in them. I would say that people of ALL political persuasions have equally bad records concerning truth telling. All the best, Robert |

What, no Mao? No Fidel? One thing NPR taught me is that you can lie with the truth very effectively. Seems you're a master craftsman. What a rogue's gallery of liars, leftists, and state-ists. Does it mention anywhere in the "curriculum" about the 100 million dead from the ideas you're foisting upon young idiots?
